1. Bottom-line Results: Engagement practices that result in business improvements
A successful approach to employee engagement will result in a highly motivated workforce, focused on helping employees face their challenges, innovate, and succeed. This strategy can be linked directly to the performance measures that matter most to the business, including quality, service, costs, safety, and retention. In this category, judges will be looking for:
- Business improvements as a result of a clearly articulated engagement strategy.
- A clear line of sight for employees to the business strategy.
- Improving business literacy for employees, the internal and external factors affecting the business, and their role in influencing business outcomes.
2. Change Effectiveness: Sustaining engagement during/following major change
Sustaining a committed workforce during (and following) a major change puts engagement strategies to the test. In this category, judges will be looking for:
- Preparing an organization for change and moving through it more effectively
- Examples of helping employees understand the business context for change so they can embrace it.
- Maintained momentum over an extended period of time.
- Helping bring about specific behavior change in line with change strategy.

- Brief summary explaining why the project is relevant for the category
- 500-word description of the project work
- Summary of the outcomes
- Up to 3 examples of any supporting materials in electronic format

Awards and Prizes
Entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges, determined by Melcrum to be experts in the field.
The top-five nominees in both categories will be notified by February 1, 2010.
Melcrum will award one prize per category. Winners will be announced at a luncheon at the 6th Annual Employee Engagement Conference on February 25, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Winners will receive a Certificate of Achievement and the Melcrum report, Essential Techniques for Employee Engagement.
Judges
Jodi Hutchison
Jodi is a strategic communications consultant & advisor. Prior to consulting, she was the vice president and director of Internal Communications at CIT. She was responsible for driving the employee engagement strategy throughout the organization, developing communications initiatives to create shared understanding of priorities and goals, strengthening communication vehicles and building an effective manager communication program.
Bob Kelleher
Bob Kelleher is the Founder and CEO of The Employee Engagement Group, and is a speaker and thought leader on employee engagement, workforce trends, and leadership. Previously, Bob was Chief Human Capital Officer for AECOM, a 43,000 employee professional services firm with 450 global officers. Under his leadership Bob introduced and spearheaded cutting-edge employee engagement initiatives. He saw first-hand the impact Human Resource leaders can have on a firm's success, as well as how an engaged culture can impact a firm's profitability.
Terry McKenzie
Terry McKenzie, a partner with The Fibonacci Design Group, has 30 years of communication, business and management experience. For six years, Terry led the global employee communication and communities organization at Sun Microsystems. She used communication and change management principles to engage employees during a difficult time in the company's history. She is known for her fresh ideas on social networking, change communication and employee engagement.
