Maintaining advantage with a competitor wiki

Welcome to Melcrum's Social Media Newsletter.

Wikis are amazing tools for pooling information and keeping it up to date. After all, anyone can add and edit information whenever they need to. All changes are recorded and access can be through a standard web browser.

We all know about the success of Wikipedia, but what about wikis within businesses?

Wikis at Scottrade
Privately owned brokerage firm Scottrade uses a competitor wiki called Competitive Intelligence Analysis or, "CIA", to keep on top of competitors' new product offerings, commission schedules, trading platforms, special promotions and much more. The wiki was created to allow staff to update the information directly, rather than relying on a central team to maintain the content.

Success with CIA
This has fundamentally changed the way Scottrade communicates, and gives the organization a valuable competitive advantage.

Its deployment has also decreased administrative overhead, freeing up staff to focus on other business-critical priorities, while the ability to add and edit information has redefined the way Scottrade associates work.

Those invested in the information regarding our competitors can now actively engage in the content through editing the text and participating in online discussions within the wiki as opposed to passively sending an email or placing a call to confirm online information.

The wiki facilitates an environment of knowledge sharing, archiving, trust and open communication while also satisfying business needs by providing associates a tool to better do their jobs.
