Overview
The aim of this one-day "Engaging business writing" session is to get you thinking differently about the way you write (taking into consideration the confines of your corporate style of course), to challenge you and remind you how inspiring and engaging the power of words can be.
Content Outline
In this interactive workshop, we’ll use tips and tools from a variety of different genres, including journalism and storytelling, to make you feel confident about:
- Getting to the point
To get away from convoluted, jargon-packed business writing, we’ll look at structuring your communications so you’re always making your most important points first. We’ll also look at making writing as short and punchy as possible. - Thinking about your reader
It’s all too easy to get bogged down in your internal processes. So, you’ll stand in your readers’ shoes for a while, and think ‘why would they care about what I’m saying?’ - Bringing your words to life
This’ll be the main chunk of the day. You’ll have the opportunity to think about old techniques in new ways. For example, using metaphors, painting pictures with words, and harnessing the power of your real opinions to give your writing life and energy. - Words to take away
You’ll also be asked to bring along an example of your own writing. You’ll work on this throughout the day, meaning you’ll leave us with some new and improved words and writing techniques.
