This course is aimed at anyone who wants to support their line managers to be more effective communicators.

  • From awareness to engagement – what skills do managers need at each stage of the communication escalator?
  • Seeing it through their eyes – what support do managers need to fulfil their communication responsibilities?  What do they say about us as internal communicators? How do we hinder when we’re trying to help? The five key areas to focus on.
  • What does ‘good communication ’ look like? Understanding good practice in leadership communication across the industry. How other organisations have addressed the issues you face yourself. Tools, tips and techniques.
  • Taking stock – what already exists in your organisation? Where are the gaps? Where should you focus to make the most difference? What practical actions can you take straight away? Compiling a gap analysis and action plan.

About the trainer

 

Sue Dewhurst

Before setting up her consultancy business four years ago, Sue spent thirteen years leading in-house teams at Royal Mail, Barclays Bank and NTL (now Virgin Media).  

She specialises in professional development for internal communicators, and communications-related training and coaching for leaders and line managers.  She co-developed and co-leads Melcrum’s highly successful Internal Communications Black Belt programme in Europe.

Sue also acts as Associate Director for Melcrum Publishing’s Strategic Communications Research Forum, where she shapes and comments on research into the most pressing internal communications challenges facing organisations today.

She has a BA (hons) in Communication Studies, a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations, and is a trained co-active coach and a licensed careers coach. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and a special advisor to its internal communications group, CIPR Inside.
