Communication experts gather at Melcrum event to learn from experts
LONDON, May 5th, 2010
• London conference hears how 'Phlogging' closes the communication gap
• Construction company tells how FOOF saved it £30m at the height of the financial crisis
More than 150 communication professionals attended Melcrum’s event ‘Fresh Ideas for Internal Comms’ at London’s Bloomsbury Hotel to hear presentations from leading Communications experts. Speakers from GE, ipadio, ERM, Top Banana, Aggregate Industries, EM(IC)*, Pfizer and ClearBox Consulting shared their innovative ideas and practical tools and tips during the day long event.
‘Phlogging’, or phone blogging, was identified as the latest technology being used to close the communication gap between leaders and employees in a joint presentation by Mark K. Smith, CEO, ipadio and Nemisys and Dr. Bonnie Cheuk, global head of knowledge and information at Environmental Resources Management (ERM).
"Phlogging is the next step in closing the communication gap between leaders and employees", said Dr Cheuk who described how ERM used ipadio's phlogging service for ‘CEO jam’ – a best practice sharing session between executives and employees. Dr Cheuk said it had changed the way senior leaders collect insights from staff, and the way they communicate and share ideas, helping to define the organisation’s strategy and future vision.
Nick Terry, managing director at Top Banana and David Porter, Focus on Our Future Coordinator at Aggregate Industries, presented Melcrum’s members with ‘FOOF’ – a budget-friendly campaign that saved the construction company more than £30 million during the height of the recession.
Melcrum’s own SharePoint and Mastering Intranet Management course leader and director of ClearBox Consulting, Sam Marshall rounded off a lively day, detailing the 10 worst practices for intranets, followed by a panel discussion with all speakers as well as Melcrum’s CEO, Victoria Mellor, sharing their top three fresh ideas with the audience.
Feedback from the event was universally positive; says Jon Weedon, internal communications manager at Betfair, ‘It’s the best Melcrum event I’ve ever been to’.
