A double celebration: Melcrum's 10th Annual SCM Summit and the inaugural awards dinner to recognise the work of internal comms professionals
LONDON, July 12, 2011
This year the flagship annual event for IC practitioners, the Strategic Communication Management Summit, marks its 10th Anniversary at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London, on 11 -13 October 2011. And to celebrate, an awards dinner will take place on 12 October, the first evening of the Summit.
Given the new state of economic activity and business environment in which we now operate, it's fitting that this year’s programme focuses on the future for internal communicators and the themes covered across the agenda have all been carefully selected to support strategic future planning.
Says Melcrum's group director of research & content, Rebecca Richmond, "The future for IC study that we wrote for our Strategic Communication Research Forum Members* earlier this year, proved to be one of the most popular pieces of research we've ever conducted. In light of that, I'm really excited that we've been able to produce an event around emerging themes from this report. I can't imagine there being a communicator out there who doesn't want to learn what the future holds for their business, their function, their people or themselves, and I believe that this event presents an opportunity to understand that future and take control of it".
Highlights on this year's programme include:
• Keynote session from David MacLeod, chair of the government sponsored employer led taskforce on employee engagement and Nita Clarke, director at the Involvement and Participation Association (IPA) and vice chair of the MacLeod Review, who will be discussing the role of internal communicators in keeping employee engagement at the top of the corporate agenda, and ensuring it remains a priority when delivering against business demands.
• Insight from Ruth Spellman, CEO at the Chartered Management Institute into how IC can fully support leaders and managers in future challenges and provide a roadmap of how to meet these challenges head on.
• Panel discussion led by Paul Miller, CEO & founder of the Intranet Benchmarking Forum, Mark Johnston, SharePoint project manager at Microsoft UK and Mike Grafham, customer success (EMEA) at Yammer Inc., which will address the challenges of the Digital Workplace and it’s future role in IC strategy.
In keeping with this year's theme, Richmond will be running one of two pre-summit interactive workshops, which will see participants conducting a future forward exercise – an "audit" of the current state in IC before considering the future state they would like to see for their function, followed by identifying ways in which to close the gaps to allow for the transition between the "before and after".
Other organisations presenting over the two days include NHS Blood and Transplant, eBay Europe, TUI UK & Ireland, Harrods, first direct, Tata Global Beverages, AkzoNobel, Unilever, Ericsson and Nationwide Building Society.
The SCM Awards Dinner, held in association with Towers Watson, specialists in communication and change management, will be hosted by author, journalist and BBC news presenter, Jeremy Vine. Winners across seven categories will be announced:
• Business Impact
• Team of the Year
• Excellence in Technology
• Excellence in Employee Engagement
• Leader of the Year
• Rising Star
• Lifetime Achievement
