Common technical issues

1. I can't download anything after registering.
If you're using Internet Explorer version 6, free resources like sample issues, executive summaries and events brochures cannot be automatically downloaded as the program needs your permission to do so.

To quickly gain access to free resources, follow these steps:

  • Click "Tools" at the top of the Internet Explorer window, then "Pop-up blocker" and "Turn off pop-up blocker".
  • Click the link to a free resource on our Web site, and a new window will open up with a yellow bar (known as the Information Bar) just under the URL which says "To help protect security, Internet Explorer blocked this site...". (Another box may also pop up telling you about the Information Bar.)
  • Click on this Information Bar, click "Download File" and click "Save" in the box that pops up. This will save the resource to your computer.

If you continue to have problems, please contact customerservice@melcrum.com or call +44 (0)20 8600 4670.

2. Images and links don't seem to work in my email
Melcrum use HTML emails that use images and color to present useful information in a more attractive way. Some email software, like Microsoft Outlook, automatically prevents the images from being displayed, or may display nothing at all, as a security measure.

It's best to check with your mail system administrator to solve these problems, but check there isn't a blue link called "Download pictures" in the top right corner of the email - this may solve the problem. Please note that some email systems - particularly older versions of Lotus Notes - will not display HTML email at all.

3. How do I open free resources?
Most free resources are in the form of PDFs. PDFs (Portable Document Format) were created by the Adobe company as a file type that allows the layout, styles and graphics of the original document to be preserved, regardless of the publishing software you have available on your machine. You do, however, need the free Acrobat Reader, available from Adobe's Web site, to open and read the PDF. You can download it here.

4.Why can't I send an attachment through one of your discussion networks?
Unfortunately, attachments can carry viruses that could be disseminated to everyone in that discussion network. For this reason, we have limited the networks to simple text emails. If you would like to exchange documents with another member of the network, please contact them on an individual basis.

5. How do I download purchased products?
Purchased electronic products will download automatically to your computer. Often these download to your desktop, but they may appear in other places on your hard drive, depending on how your system has been set up. However, if you can't find them, or they are accidentally deleted, you can download the product again at any time by entering your User ID and password and clicking ‘My Account' in the top menu, and then ‘Purchase History’.
