Lights, camera, action! Building video into your communication strategy

March 30th, 2010 By Kelly Dyer, Editor
kelly.dyer@melcrum.com

Online video is a hot topic in internal communication circles right now. Whether it's user generated or produced by professionals, it's proving to be a highly effective communication channel.

Neil Jenkins, Coca-Cola Enterprises' European Communication Manager explains, "[Video has] always been a powerful way of telling a story or getting messages across but what we're seeing now is that as online systems become more sophisticated, the simpler it is to share video widely."

"We're using video to increase leaders' visibility and also to make messages much more accessible to our employees," says Jenkins, "and having the SharePoint platform that can carry video much more effectively is a real bonus."

The best-practice use of video within internal communication is just one of the topics that's discussed by Melcrum's Social Media Benchmarking Group, of which Jenkins and companies including Ericsson, HSBC and RBS are members.

If you're leading social media programs for your organization, you need to join. Members meet quarterly in London to discuss key challenges such as gaining executive buy-in, as well as benchmarking their performance and getting support and advice.

Until next time,

Kelly Dyer
