Drawing up a comms crisis plan for any eventuality

April 20th, 2010 By Kelly Dyer, Editor
kelly.dyer@melcrum.com

The havoc caused by the eruption of the Icelandic volcano has entered its sixth day and has brought European aviation to a near standstill. Millions of travelers are stranded around the world, and the airlines, as well as many other businesses, are incurring losses in income of millions of pounds per day.

In extraordinary situations such as these, normal business processes are disrupted and communication is no exception. Are you confident that your crisis communication plan is robust enough to deal with this sort of scenario?

For those of you who don't have one already established, these four questions will help you form an effective plan:

1. What are your key objectives in a crisis?
2. Who should be on your crisis team?
3. What should a response plan look like?
4. What resources will you need?

By addressing the key crisis communication questions in preparation for an unforeseeable situation, you'll hopefully minimize major issues and risks if such a crisis were to affect your organization.

Find out the answers to these crucial questions in this article on the Internal Comms Hub.

Until next time,

Kelly Dyer

P.S. Do you know your Twitter from your Yammer? Are you planning to implement social media into your communication strategy? Our Social Media for Internal Communicators conference in Brussels, will cover how to use the most effective social media tools and how to ensure they make a real difference to your business. Find out more.
