Three ways to give yourself a communication MOT

May 11th, 2010 By Nishwa Ashraf, Editorial Assistant
nishwa.ashraf@melcrum.com

Whether you're fresh to the function or a veteran of the profession, there's always an opportunity to improve how you approach and communicate business challenges. But when you're constantly "switched on", it's easy to forget to take a step back and consider what you're learning, and whether or not you could be doing more to improve your communication performance.

In this article on the Internal Comms Hub, Sue Dewhurst, managing director of the SD Group and associate director of Melcrum's Internal Communication Black Belt training program, describes three processes you can implement to enhance your professional skills through these areas of learning:

1. Experiential learning - You've no doubt gained some of the deepest learning through involvement with programs and situations you've never worked with before.

2. Reflection - Regularly taking stock of what has and hasn't worked so far and address the issues before it's too late. The pace of working life means it's tempting to rush straight onto the next announcement and make the same mistakes.

3. Imitation - Taking the time to learn from other people's successes and mistakes pays dividends. You can pick up tips that can sharpen your approach.

Also, if you need to improve your skills in the area of intranet management then don't forget to take a look at Melcrum's new groundbreaking Mastering Intranet Management course. Places are filling up fast so book now!

Until next time,

Nishwa

P.S. The new dates you've all been waiting for have arrived! The Internal Communication Black Belt Program sets a new global standard for effective internal communication. With more than 1,000 graduates worldwide, the Black Belt Program builds on extensive research to equip communicators with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their roles and impact organizational performance.
