Communicating through turbulent times at British Airways: an exclusive insight

March 2nd, 2010 By Kelly Dyer, Editor
kelly.dyer@melcrum.com

British Airways, once labelled the "world's favourite airline", has been under the spotlight of the world's media like never before in the past year.

Cost cuts, job losses and now potential strike action all mean the internal communication team has faced enormous challenges.

In this exclusive interview with British Airways' head of internal communications, Penny Lawson, we find out more about her team's relationship with BA chief executive Willie Walsh, the ongoing challenges she's facing this year, as well as plans for the future:

"We very much want to re-build the company based on the power and popularity of the brand," says Lawson. "I can't stress enough how proud employees are of British Airways as a brand. People have huge affection for it."

And if you'd like to hear Penny Lawson bring her story to life and ask her questions about how communication is handled at the organization, come along to Melcrum's Internal Communication Change Conference next week in London.

Until next time,

Kelly Dyer

P.S. At the Internal Communication Change Conference, you'll also hear from other leading change communicators including Lynne Gray, internal communications director at Aviva; Alana Renner, head of engagement and internal communications at the Post Office; and Tom Crawford, head of internal communications at Experian UK. Book your place today!
